How To Change A Flat Tire

  • Find a safe place to change your tire
  • Engage your handbrake and turn on your hazard lights
  • Get all the things you need to change your tire and put it within easy reach near the flat tire
  • Loosen the nuts on the flat tire with out removing them (about ½ turn)
  • Find a flat, hard surface under the suspension or the chassis where you can put the jack
(You should know your jacking points. Check your manual)
  • Jack up the car until it is high enough for you to put in the reserve tire
  • Remove all the nuts and remove the flat tire
  • Put the flat tire under the car
  • Replace it with the reserve tire
  • Tighten the nuts as far it is allowed without exerting much effort
  • Tighten it in an “x” (wheels with 4 nuts) or star (wheels with 5 nuts) pattern
  • Take the flat tire from under the car then set the car to the ground
  • Tighten the nuts, this time make it as tight as possible
  • Before you drive off, make sure your jack, tire and all other tools have been returned into your trunk compartment
